I was listening to the original of this song today on the radio and some lyrics hit me for the first time:

Which reminded me of how Rifkin depicts the next generation's, and some of us old-schooler's, values here.

This is a live concert recording of my band back in the '80s, playing a song the guitarist, Jimmy Thornton, wrote as part of a soundtrack he was working on for his brother Billy Bob's forthcoming movie, Slingblade.  Not sure what to call the genre: unhinged bluegrass punk?

What was your role in the band?

I played the bass (and wrote some lyrics for a couple of the songs).  In this recording, we were playing at a battle of the bands at a club in Houston -- and eventually got kicked out for being too loud!

I just came across this "long lost" recording, and also found some interesting acoustic songs by Jimmy.  I plan on digitalizing them soon and may post them here.

Here's another song from the tape I am digitalizing.  This is an acoustic song by Jimmy -- a kind of dirge, remembering his former bandmates and band (The Jones).  The lyrics are quite good, in my opinion, if you have the patience to listen (and the end gets pretty intense).
