I caught this act on America's Got Talent. Like the judges and the audience, I thought this was going to be silly at best. He plays like this meditative guru and starts to do a deep Tibetan chant. The audience is booing and one judge gives him the X. And then he does something amazing! I don't think he actually does what it appears to be, but it is an amazing trick nonetheless.

Oh, yes, I saw that on TV last night.  I was feeling embarrassed for the guy, then enjoyed the way he wowed the audience (and the judges) with his trick.  It's actually an ancient trick, one performed by the fakirs in India.  Fun to see it show up here (though I thought the Hare Krishna / Tibetan yogi mash-up part of his act was pretty cheesy.)

Indeed, me too. It reminds me of many intros in Yes's songs, and motifs interspersed throughout them, alternating between this more crooked polyphony and more melodic and harmonic stuff. For example, this one.
