I know, there might be some controversy in putting her in this category. But I truly think she fits here and will make that case. I’ve already started in the commentary to her photo and video which I’ll copy-and-paste here. Also see our previous Gaia discussion at this link in Google docs. For me “spirituality” encompasses many things, including acceptance, love and liberation. I think she is about all three and more, and certainly in a postmodern context-media.

Also recall one of the most moving scenes from Avatar, when the tribe is gathering around the Mother Tree, singing-chanting, swaying-dancing, evoking imagery, invoking Goddess. I get this same feeling watching Gaga, the same deep connection to my primal roots, freeing me to sing and dance along, breaking the bonds of convention and being true to all my relations.

Hey Edward -- Did you see Gaga on Saturday Night Live last night (May 21, rapture night)?
I missed SNL last night so didn't see it. Thanks for the heads up, as I found her performances on the show at this link. One of the songs she performed was Judas, which I read today is creating negative feedback from some Catholic organizations. And as far as rapture, she sure enraptures me. I guess The Rapture really did happen last night, just not in the expected manner.
The sketch with Timerberlake and Samberg having a 3-way with Gaga was pretty funny.
Yeah, that one was funny. Most of the rest of the skits were just so-so. SNL is not what it used to be. Or maybe it's more like: I'm not who I used to be when I watched SNL in the past . . .

I saw this being shared on Facebook today, Ed, and thought you would like it.

This is from Gaga's Thanksgiving TV special Thursday night, which of course I watched. Like Bennett I think she is a highly talented and creative genius, only getting better with age. And she's only 25!

She opened the Grammy nominations last night with another blockbuster performance.

Her latest video is quite disturbing, a very strange stranger in a deep, dark, unmarked space that she marries.

Her Christmas present is this formerly unreleased single from Born This Way, Stuck on Fuckin' You.

My Take on Lady Gaga:

From my past posting "Ahriman wears SteamPunk":  http://integrallife.com/node/200435

Is the female robot of the 1927 movie "Metropolis" destined to be our next Wotan or Ahriman?  With apologies to Madonna and Lady GaGa, I hope not, although I suspect that the "Robot Diva" has already become a major cultural complex, spinning off charged imagery throughout the collective psyche.  It's already a meme (which is a contagious cultural complex).

Why would anyone want to depotentize Lady Gaga or Captain America, or the pleasures of a great glass of beer for that matter?

I don't.  Here's why:

Just as food transforms the energy of the Sun so that we may assimilate it into our physical bodies and live, the complex serves the same function for the psyche.  The complex transforms the archetypal energies of the objective psyche into a form which is digestible to our human souls.  That there is an  archetypal core to the complexes is one of the central hypotheses of Carl Jung's work.

And so, "Lady GaGa" is a kind of soul food.  She nourishes those souls able to digest the images she serves up.   We want vitamin GaGa!  High in protein, low in fat, tastes great, less filling and all that - or so it would seem for many, and yet for others she's as indigestible as a cow patty.

What paths lie ahead for religion and spirituality in the 21st Century? How might the insights of modernity and post-modernity impact and inform humanity's ancient wisdom traditions? How are we to enact, together, new spiritual visions – independently, or within our respective traditions – that can respond adequately to the challenges of our times?

This group is for anyone interested in exploring these questions and tracing out the horizons of an integral post-metaphysical spirituality.
