Participatory Spirituality for the 21st Century
I was thinking about how to make IPS more socially "active" and impactful, in light of recent discussions. One option, which I need to read about further but which I think would work, would be to allow for advertising on the site, and then donate whatever income comes from the ads to charities or causes members here would like to support. I've enjoyed the ad-free look of the site for years, so there would be some aesthetic sacrifice involved, but for a good cause. Another option would be to ask for a small yearly subscription for membership in IPS, which also could be donated to causes of our choice, but that is not really optimal since active members here are small in number. If there are other ways to monetize our work here, we could also consider that ... such as editing and self-publishing some of the work we produce.
What do you think?

Thanks, I appreciate the need for this thread. It's why my blog now focuses on trying to motivate people, including me, to participate in the political process in whatever ways and degrees we can. That's another way of getting active. Donating to social causes is another. I tend less toward the latter as I retired early and have a pretty tight budget, but I have lots of time to invest. Although I can afford a small subscription fee and would be willing to do that. Let's explore some options for our activism.
Right, I hear you. I've held back from upgrading this site to its next level (which would allow for greater membership and other features) for monetary reasons as well. Allowing ads to be placed here (maybe at the bottom of the page) would be a bit "ugly," but it wouldn't cost any of us anything.
Would whoever chooses the ads for our site select them with a mind to making them consistent with our themes? Or just any old ads that might support the very things we oppose?
I believe they would tend to be related to the themes of the site (general holistic/spiritual themes). I'd have to check, though, how much control over them we would have.
Check with William too.* I think his blog does this, where some of the related book links to Amazon generate a small income if people click them. Frank Visser too.*
* Update: I sent them both emails to join us with any insight they have on this.
I forwarded Frank's email response to you.
At the moment, this site is at full membership capacity and we are not admitting new members. We are still getting new membership applications, however, so I am considering upgrading to the next level, which will allow for more members to join. In the meantime, all discussions are open for viewing and we hope you will read and enjoy the content here.
