Thanks for the reminder about that film; I've wanted to watch it for awhile. I will try to do so soon.
With its mix of classical instrumentation and rock structures, the poro group, Ascent of Everest, reminds me a bit of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, too:
An old poem I wrote in India. I was inspired to re-record it after reading some poetry by an old friend of mine, who is currently finding poetic inspiration for his own work on the same riverbanks...
Would you provide the words for us? I didn't hear some of them.
Sure. Here they are:
Evening by the Ganges
The light of the evening falls
Into the spaces between the leaves
Till that is all you see: points of evening, ablaze,
As though the fire were drawn
From all things,
From mango and muchkand and stone,
And you cannot tell the light
From the singers in the trees,
Leaping from limb to limb,
And you cannot tell the singers
From the sun, broken
On the broad face
of the river --
All things speaking the same bright tongue,
Meaning born of leaps of light.
Long-fingered leaves reach
Into the pink evening,
Love moves out from my palms,
And the sun in the tree
In sudden shivers flashes
Through the body, through the brain,
And these words come, like Ganga
Throwing back the sun,
Like when an angel kisses your ear in sleep
And makes light in the body leap
And you come undone.
One of my fav bands from that era, though I never saw them in concert. So this will be a treat when I have the time to watch it all. I skipped around a bit and had no idea Byrne was so animated. This is going to be fun, thanks.
Stop Making Sense is one of the best concert movies I've ever seen, honestly. I think you'll really enjoy it.
Another fav from that era:
Thanks to Archive Fire for bringing this to my attention:
Lyrics:
The Wake-Up
Keep It Together
And The Sky Began To Scream
Welcome Oblivion
Ice Age
On The Wing
Too Late, All Gone
How Long?
Strings And Attractors
We Fade Away
The Loop Closes
I wanna be part of the shit network...
