I saw Jersey Boys on Friday and this one is rattling around my brain this morning.
Last night on AGT eleven year old Mara Justine stunned me and everyone else with her singing voice.
The video above does the prelim and after interview but cuts off a lot of the song. This video has the first part of the song.
Ryn Weaver's new single. This is her only released song to date (as of yesterday, actually) and she's already getting lots of attention.
She reminds me of Katy Perry, which is a good thing, but she does have her own sound. The opening xylophone melody sounds Japanese-inflected, as does some of the click-clacky percussion throughout. I like the cute little squeak to her voice on occasion.

Beside being highly creative, I find Asian K-pop to be exceptionally well produced, directed and choreographed. And not merely imitative of American or British pop, but with a cultural and aesthetic flair of its own. I like it.
Which reminds me of some old school Japanese-American jazz fusion, Hiroshima.
Speaking of jazz fusion, here's another golden oldie by Acoustic Alchemy. They too infused various cultural riffs in their hybrids. This one has a middle eastern flair. And the virtuosity is impeccable.
