LOL - nice! I shared this on the FB mirror site.
Part of why I like the cover are the flaws. The guitarist has that screeching sliding sound as he slides between chords. The singer's voice has some choppy transitions between notes and octaves. The keyboardist at times hits the keys too abruptly. On the other hand, I also really like the 'perfect' engineered studio sound of the original, so here it is.
I grew up listening to many of the stories that comprise my father's book, Letters to Jud, but this is not one he told me -- perhaps because the feelings he wanted to communicate were too subtle for my childish mind to appreciate. The story recalls a largely uneventful Christmas Eve, but the story is not in the particular events it relates -- it is in the lovingly recalled details, each crisp and luminous as a winter's night; it is in the first mystical stirrings of the heart as it cracks open onto the world in all its ordinariness to disclose, beyond all expectation, the "love come down ... love divine" that lights each and every simple thing.

Nice. This album was recently voted one of the top 50 post-rock/instrumental releases of the year. It caught my attention because of the band name includes mention of Jung, and also the album's first song title: "His Shining Fur is Said to Fill the Sky, Trees and Sea with Light"...! (They're Canadian and their sound reminds me a bit of their posty compatriots, Do Make Say Think.)
And I will walk and talk in gardens all wet with rain, and I'll never ever get so old again...
I wrote this post with the following in mind. These guys are still one of the most innovative bands of all time. And yes, they make me happy.
I was reminded that Tori Amos does a fine political and psychedelic cover of the above. This is one of my favs by her. In this linkshe talks about the song's meaning via various interviews.
