Thankful today for family, friends, childhood, memories.  I spent Thanksgiving morning making this video, which features another song by my late friend, Jimmy, to which I have added some flute accompaniment.

Here are the lyrics:

Billy Bob's Magic Kingdom

Before we go, can we have one more
Chocolate milk from the country store
Another of these cheap plastic toys
Put it on the bill - yeah, we're Jenny's boys

We'll build a tent of lawnchairs and sheets
Can I chase you around with gloves on my feet?
When no one is looking, we'll go out where
Uncle Roy is sitting, he'll give us a drink of his beer

Hide in honeysuckle, hearing Katie cussing
And laugh till we're in tears

Don't you wish you were here?

We'll hear Ghost Riders in the Sky
On the front porch eating fried apple pies
We'll sing along, tap our toes
Get goosebumps from the yippy-yi-yo's

The phone will ring, two longs and a short
The butane tank will be our fort
And in the front yard, the car radio's playin'
Bringing in the football game loud and clear

And the Razorbacks beat Texas every year

So don't you wish you were here?
Oh, don't you wish you were here?
Oh, don't you wish you were here
in Billy Bob's magic kingdom

A horse named Cocoa, a mare in heat
Cocoa throws us and runs down the street
Do you remember how hard we hit?
Now that I know what he was after, I don't blame him a bit

And a banana seat on a purple bicycle
Baseball cards and Indian head nickels
As they always do, the marching dragons
Will steal the show in the Christmas parade this year

Hear them comin' drummin', see the white folks cover their ears
Meet me later by the road grader, don't tell anyone else where

Oh, don't you wish -- don't you wish you were here?
Oh, don't you wish you were here?
Oh, don't you wish you were here
in Billy Bob's magic kingdom

Won't you show me the way to that magic door
I want to hide something in our secret drawer
Is there anywhere beyond our backyard fence?
Anywhere where everything still made sense?

And we could smear lightning bugs on our faces
We could still be two saber jet aces
We could still pretend that we're ten feet tall
There's no smart ass rich kids to ruin it all

And if you have dreams to dream, you can dream 'em
And if you have songs to sing, you can sing 'em
And if you love someone, won't you bring 'em
To Billy Bob's magic kingdom

Your best video to date. Well blended imagery and nice melodic flute with the song. Well done.

Thanks, Theurj.  I've always liked this song of Jimmy's, but only had a partial recording of it (the end was cut off because Jimmy wasn't satisfied and stopped right before it should have ended).  I've "saved" it with a little digital wizardry, looping an earlier section onto the very end so it ends (hopefully) more smoothly ... and, of course, I also had a little fun adding some "magic kingdom-ish" flute parts in!

Anyway, thanks for listening and for your feedback.  Happy turkey day!  We're about to sit down to our own feast in a few minutes.

What paths lie ahead for religion and spirituality in the 21st Century? How might the insights of modernity and post-modernity impact and inform humanity's ancient wisdom traditions? How are we to enact, together, new spiritual visions – independently, or within our respective traditions – that can respond adequately to the challenges of our times?

This group is for anyone interested in exploring these questions and tracing out the horizons of an integral post-metaphysical spirituality.
