Hedge's excellent diatribe reminded me of the movie I saw last weekend about Facebook by the above title. The movie indeed highlighted that Facebook is all about creating a social image in our image-laden worship of this (American) idol. Yes, the creator of Facebook was a computer genius but also quite apt at recognizing this idol-worship and turning it into a multi-billion dollar empire. Said creator (don't recall his name, so much for his "fame") was also hypnotized by the same illusion, hence his buying into the fantasy created by his new business partner (the guy who created Napster, again a name that escapes me) and getting rid of his first business partner. The movie also showed that said FB creator was a petty, vindictive nerd which was his prime motivation for everything, and of course this trait is rampant in our image-driven entertainment culture. I wonder what Hedges (not Jesus) will say about the movie...

I know, Facebook addicts don't like criticism of their supposed harmless participation in a social network site. Keep in mind though some facts from this well-researched wikipedia article. This is what you support by willingly participating.
This South Park episode on Facebook is funny and accurate.

What paths lie ahead for religion and spirituality in the 21st Century? How might the insights of modernity and post-modernity impact and inform humanity's ancient wisdom traditions? How are we to enact, together, new spiritual visions – independently, or within our respective traditions – that can respond adequately to the challenges of our times?

This group is for anyone interested in exploring these questions and tracing out the horizons of an integral post-metaphysical spirituality.
