for a moment, let's assume that this is authentic: what's it's say about the paranormal? could this sages world view be taken as fact given his astonishing condition?

Andrew, have you seen the story of "Buddha boy" Ram Bahadur Bomjon? They did a story on him on the Discovery Channel. Here is a record of his speech when he emerged.
The magical child in me wants that to be true, but the skeptic urges the need for empirical evidence. That same skeptic also knows full well that people "make things up" in order to explain things. I don't mean they consciously lie, but their mind fills in the blanks, as it were -- it makes up stories. I catch myself doing this with memories, taking real events and connecting them with ideas that seem reasonable to me, but may or may not have happened. Apparently, this is normal, as psychological studies show.

So--assuming that story is true--it proves... nothing, imo. Another mystic might blame faeries. Maybe spirit takes on forms appropriate to their culture. Or maybe they have a weird genetic mutation and their minds, lacking a better explanation, makes up a nice story to account for it. Who knows? I think a healthy dose of agnosticism is called for here.
yup, i've been following the buddha boy story for a while rl.......

if the story is true infimitas then it proves that a human can indeed be a breatharian! what i think though, is that a dozen or so scientists from different cultures should be aloud access to this guru for a couple of months to see if the claims do indeed stand up to that kind of scrutiny....where's david suzuki when you need him:)
Yeah. I'm all for mystics getting under the fMRI so then we can see what the human being is fully capable of...
Hi Andrew,

if the story is true infimitas then it proves that a human can indeed be a breatharian!

Techically it would only prove the he can. Without further evidence it says nothing about humans in general. But it could provide a good reason to investigate that possibility.

What paths lie ahead for religion and spirituality in the 21st Century? How might the insights of modernity and post-modernity impact and inform humanity's ancient wisdom traditions? How are we to enact, together, new spiritual visions – independently, or within our respective traditions – that can respond adequately to the challenges of our times?

This group is for anyone interested in exploring these questions and tracing out the horizons of an integral post-metaphysical spirituality.
