Found this while searching on Kheper (sp?) integral metaphysics (or postmetaphysics? don't remember) site. My search was the word "fountain," as my own spiritual approach is basically applying the "fountain flowing deep and wide" from an old church Vacation Bible School song within my Christian upbringing. This depth-dynamic theology works for me. I run while imagining that a fountain is flowing from an unknown deep core, giving me healing and spiritual (subtle) energy. In Christian Running I contrast where I depart from Wilber by embracing a metaphysical model (of a fountain or solar flare, emphasizing depth-unfolding) instead of staying with his strictly epistemological approach which he seems to have inherited from postmodern thought. The depth-dynamic approach also seems to match the most recent iterations of quantum physics which seem to embrace the notion of an actual, "ontological," quantum (and, possibly sub-quantum, as implied by Bohm and Hiley's super-implicate order) substrate/substratum of reality. A literal depth dimension to total reality is embraced by both these scientists and this homespun spiritual author (me).

Here's the excerpt about fountain-like spirituality. The ideas come from Jewish Kabbala (sp?):

Just as there is depth, breadth and length to Understanding, which is called Somethingness, so is there depth, breadth and length to Wisdom, which is called Nothingness.

The depth of a fountain is the beginning of its source, which is the deepest place from which it originates. From there, it flows upward, until it gradually emerges from its hidden state. This is ultimately concealed at its deepest depth, regarding which is written, “The fountains of the deep were split open” (Genesis 7:11). Regarding this (depth) it is also written: “Wisdom comes into being from Nothingness (Job 28:12). This refers to the “hidden state of Wisdom,” which is called the “depth of Wisdom.”

What paths lie ahead for religion and spirituality in the 21st Century? How might the insights of modernity and post-modernity impact and inform humanity's ancient wisdom traditions? How are we to enact, together, new spiritual visions – independently, or within our respective traditions – that can respond adequately to the challenges of our times?

This group is for anyone interested in exploring these questions and tracing out the horizons of an integral post-metaphysical spirituality.
